Potential for Prevention of Gastric Cancer: Eradication of Helicobacter pylori

Dr. Richard Hunt, Professor of Medicine for the Division of Gastroenterology at McMaster University Medical Centre, examines the relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric cancer, and reviews current evidence that H. pylori eradication may help prevent the development of gastric cancer. He then weighs the potential benefits and drawbacks of screening for and treating H. pylori infection to prevent gastric cancer in certain individuals, particularly in Western populations versus populations in developing countries.
