In
Part II of his presentation, Dr. W. Allan Walker discusses certain disease
states such as atopic disease, inflammatory bowel disease and necrotizing
enterocolitis which can result when abnormal bacterial-epithelial 'crosstalk'
occurs. He presents new observations with respect to the effect probiotics
have on gut barrier function and mucus release and uses recent studies
to show the basis for using probiotics when treating intestinal disease.
