Horn, Professor of Pharmacy and Associate Director of Pharmacy Services at the University of Washington Medical Center, provides a brief review of the pharmacology of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) with a particular focus on PPI metabolism. Topics covered include the mechanism of action and metabolic pathways of PPIs, the effect of the CYP2C19 genotype on PPI pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and on clinical response.
